Which trends will YOU choose?

The stores are bursting with the new Autumn collections, but with so much to choose from, what will you be adding to your wardrobe?  Here’s a quick round-up of some of the biggest trends, and how you can make them work for you.

The colour of the season

Red is everywhere right now, and it’s great to see a vibrant colour in the shops this time

of year, rather than the subdued neutrals of black, grey and navy.  These do, of course, have their place, but why not add some red to those neutrals and make a statement?

There is a shade for everyone, so do check the garment against your complexion before you buy (especially if you’ll be wearing it close to your face).  You should also consider your personality and the impact you want to make.  If you’re an outgoing, gregarious person, the brighter, more vibrant shades are more likely to suit you, whereas if you’re more of a quiet, private person, you would probably feel more comfortable in a subtler shade.

Brocades, velvet and faux fur are all out there, so if you love to make an impact, these will be great for you.  Although there’s no reason why you can’t wear them if you prefer a more conservative look, just keep it as an accent.

Velvet and corduroy are both on trend this season, so you can either glam it up or go for a more casual look – whichever suits you best.

Brocade is one that perhaps won’t be quite as long lasting a trend as some, so be careful not to go overboard with this one, unless you truly love it.  A great way to add it to your look is in the form of accessories - a scarf, handbag or shoes.  There are prints and adornments on shoes in particular all over the high street right now, from the likes of M&S up to high end.

When it comes to faux fur, shearling is the look to go for.  The real thing would of course last for years, but can be heavy, especially if you’re thinking of getting a winter coat.  The faux versions are so good these days that you can hardly tell the difference.  Add some body warmth with a gorgeous gilet or keep your toes toasty in pair of comfy ankle boots.

If, like me, to don’t like to show off your legs too much, you’ll love these trends.  Skirts are staying longer for winter 2017 and midi (calf length) are really popular – just make sure the hem doesn’t hit your legs at their widest point, as this won’t be very flattering.  If it does, a pair of long boots will work wonders.

The narrowest part of the lower leg is generally just below the knee, so it rather depends on how tall you are, or how long your legs are, where the hem will fall.  I always advocate trying clothes on before you buy, and this is an occasion when it is a must.

The trend for wide leg trousers has been around for a while and works particularly well if you have heavy legs.  From a personal perspective, although I do wear straight leg jeans and casual trousers, I feel more confident in wide leg trousers that skim over the lumps and bumps.  If this is a favourite trend for you, or you want to give it a try, make sure you wear them with a fitted top and/or jacket to avoid adding pounds to your overall look.

Fancy tights

This is an accessory we have seen before (as is the case with so many trends).  Sad to say, I can remember fancy tights the last time around!

They are a great way to add personality to an outfit without breaking the bank.  Seek out bold colours and lace designs to put a smile on your face.

These are just a small selection of the trends on offer, which I hope will give you food for thought when you’re adding a few up to date pieces to your wardrobe.

PRODUCT REVIEW - Tropic Skincare Smoothing Cleanser

I’ve  been meaning to write a blog post about this product for some time. Since I have now become a Tropic Skincare Ambassador and am trying out all the rest of the gorgeous products for myself, it’s the perfect time to start a regular review with this hero product from the range. I have been a huge fan of Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish for a number of years.  I love the fact that it takes off not only the make-up and daily grime from my face, but also my eye make-up, without making my eyes sting.  It also smells lovely.  I would probably have continued to be a dedicated fan if I hadn’t recently discovered that since the Liz Earle range has been available in stores, such as Boots, they have had to add preservatives to the products due to these stores demanding a longer shelf life.  I was very disappointed with this news, so having chatted about the Tropic range with a fellow image consultant and discovered that they have a very similar product, I j...

PRODUCT REVIEW - Tropic Skincare Tamanu Balm

Following on from my earlier review of the Tropic Skincare Smoothing Cleanser , m y next product review just had to be this absolutely brilliant little pot - a total skin saviour! I discovered this product when a fellow image consultant and Tropic Skincare Ambassador came to my home to do a pamper party for me and my friends. I was a little sceptical at first and the smell could be a little off-putting for some, although it's by no means offensive and can perhaps be best described as 'herby'.  Tropic claim that it is great for anything from rosacea to insect bites and lots more besides, and, as with all their products, it is entirely natural, vegan and cruelty free. Having had an itchy rash on my shin for over a year, for which I had tried everything I could think of over the counter, including: itch relief cream, Sudacreme, antihistamine cream, Calomine & aqueous cream and E45, all of which had failed to do any more than temporarily calm the iritation, I dec...

The Art of Layering

We have reached the autumn equinox, which basically means that summer is over (sad face)!  Having said that, we often get some lovely days at this time of year, when there is still some warmth in the sun, so you may be reluctant to pack away your summer clothes just yet.  There are also many ladies out there who have their own personal central heating system that kicks in at all times of the day who would benefit from some flexibility in their outfit! This is exactly the time of year when layering comes into it’s own, but doing it successfully may take a little thought.   You need to find a happy medium – it’s not quite cold enough for those thick sweaters, but you need more than a thin top.   Layering can take you right through the winter and into spring.   The air trapped between the layers helps to keep you toasty warm, and will do a better job than one really thick sweater on its own.  Make sure you don’t add too many different colours though – id...
